Kenbak-1 Reproduction Kit

Kenbak-1 Reproduction Kit

Build your own Kenbak-1 replica with this kit. The kit includes all the necessary components to assemble a fully functioning Kenbak-1 computer (excluding the PCB which can be purchased separately in another listing) and the hard-to-find components, such as the 1404A shift registers. However, it does not include a case. Cases can be purchased separately, or you can get PCBWay to build you one (see https://www.pcbway.com/project/shareproject/KENBAK_1_Case_652ebb23.html). You will need the front panel at a minimum.

The Kenbak-1 is recognized as one of the very first personal computers, created in 1971. Although rudimentary, it was a significant milestone in computing history. Now, you can own a piece of history by building your very own Kenbak-1 computer with this kit.

This replica looks and functions very much like the original Kenbak-1, with a few key differences:

1. The power supply in the kit is a regulated switching power supply, unlike the bulky one used in the original Kenbaks. This helps protect the delicate components inside. Reproduction power supply kits are coming soon.

2. The kit uses LEDs instead of incandescent lights for greater reliability, though this is not 100% authentic to the original design.

3. The components included in the kit are from various time periods and are not necessarily from the 1970s.
